If you’re using a Galaxy S21, S21 +, or S21 Ultra and want to check out the latest software Samsung is brewing, you’ll want to get involved with the One UI beta program. Version 4.0 is available for beta testers of the program today, and it has quite a few new changes. The main one, at least for homeowners in the US, is support for eSIM cards. The feature was previously available in other countries and territories (as well as for the T-Mobile Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra).
We’re also seeing over a dozen changes, big and small, and that’s exactly what we were able to quickly spot. Here is a brief overview.
New visual design of notification and brightness slider:
Extra-dim options (like Android 12 Pixels):
A new widget selector for the home screen:
New notification authorization windows:
Authorization usage history:
New device maintenance design:
New interface to turn off shadow notifications:
New Android 12 style precise location permission:
Other changes include changes to various apps and settings:
- Sync Wi-Fi with Samsung Cloud
- New loading animation
- New colors
- New settings user interface
- Display examples for updated dark mode
- New brightness icon
- New motion smoothing animation, new settings UI
- Updating the Galaxy System App (outside the Galaxy Store)
- New privacy dashboard
- Toast notifications to clipboard
- Private computing core
- Labs added with multi-window for all
- Digital wellness driving monitor
- Design and haptics of the device’s new car animations
- New zoom out animation on the home screen
- New camera user interface
- New calendar user interface
- Changing the light balance setting
The One UI 4 beta is available for Galaxy S21 devices, but oddly enough, the new Z Flip3 and Z Fold3 aren’t invited. It’s also geographically limited: users in the US, UK, Germany, Poland, South Korea, India, and China have access to it, but everyone will have to wait. (The rollout may not be immediate in all countries; we can only confirm this in the US so far.) To register, go to the Samsung developer site.
