A 12-foot, 500-pound alligator captured and killed by Louisiana officials this week after it was suspected of fatally attacking a 71-year-old man in the wake of Hurricane Ida has been found to have human remains in his stomach.
Timothy Satterlee has been missing since being attacked by an alligator on August 30 in flood waters outside his home in the suburb of Slidell in New Orleans.
After witnessing the attack, his wife was able to drag him onto the steps of their still-alive house, but when she returned from getting help in a small boat, he was missing.
Authorities have been looking for Satterlee for two weeks and the alligator was caught and killed by MPs and wildlife officials on Monday near the area where Satterlee went missing.

The coroner has yet to determine whether the remains belong to Satterlee, FOX 8 reported in New Orleans.
“This is a horrible tragedy and my sincere condolences and sympathy go out to the Satterlee family,” St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith said Monday, according to FOX 8. “I know today’s findings they are not bringing their loved one back, but I hope it can provide some sort of closure for them. I am very proud of the hard and continuous work of my assistants and other agencies who have helped, and I hope their persistence to finding this alligator will help the family cope with their loss. We will continue to keep them in our prayers. “

Ida had caused widespread flooding and cut off electricity and telephone service in parts of southern Louisiana when he landed on August 29.
