Falcons have reportedly removed 3 players from practice squad

You’ve probably been watching like a hawk to see if the Falcons could pick up any free agents, just like us, given the team looked so shaky against the Eagles and clearly needed a little help. We haven’t seen any of those signings yet, but the Falcons have made a handful of moves on the practice squad that suggest something is coming.

In total, the team have reportedly removed three players from the practice squad, parting ways with recently signed kicker Elliott Fry, wide receiver Juwan Green and tight end David Wells.

The most surprising name here is Fry, who was recently signed as insurance for Younghoe Koo and Cam Nizialek. Green has hung on to the practice squad after finishing the preseason strong, but the Falcons have six receivers on the roster and Austin Trammell and Keelan Doss are also available to the practice squad receiver. He might have a clearer path to a place on the list elsewhere. Ditto Wells, which was the tight fifth or sixth end depending on where John Raine is in the pecking order.

James Vaughters has been kicked out of the practice squad rather than promoted, so the Falcons have three spots left as soon as it is official. They may just have three other players on the practice squad in mind – this squad seems to be restless and bring in players they like who become available for short stints to see who’s left – but it can also be a sign that ‘At least Felipe Franks is heading to the practice squad after Josh Rosen was listed as Matt Ryan’s clear backup for the first time today. We’ll probably find out in the next few days, because if Atlanta plans to free up any roster spots and sign someone they think will be useful against the Buccaneers, they’ll want to do so pretty much immediately.

We wish Fry, Green and Wells the best of luck on their next stop, but don’t be surprised if they end up on the Atlanta practice squad at some point either. Let’s see what moves the Falcons have in store as they gear up for the Buccaneers.
