Border patrol agents rescued two young children abandoned along the Rio Grande River on Tuesday, including a 3-month-old baby in a baby carrier – the latest case of child abandonment at the southern border.
In a statement, the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said the 2-year-old girl and the 3-month-old boy, both of Honduran nationality, are siblings and were found abandoned along the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass.

They were not found until officers on the river noticed “an unusual color” on the shore and discovered the two children.
They found a note identifying their age and nationality, and no individuals were encountered while searching the area. The children were brought to safety and transported to a nearby station for treatment. They did not need medical attention, CBP said.

This is the latest case of young children abandoned at the border, often by smugglers, in the hope that they will be picked up by the border patrol, processed in the United States and ultimately handed over to sponsors – usually parents or d other relatives – who are already in the United States
In June, Border patrol posted a video of a 5-year-old migrant girl wandering alone at the border after being abandoned near the end of the wall.
Earlier this month, a video appeared which allegedly showed a 5-year-old boy shouting “Don’t go!” after being abandoned along the US-Mexico border.
A DHS source told Fox News on Wednesday that there were 18,847 encounters of unaccompanied children in August, down slightly from July.

Meanwhile, Republicans have asked the Department of Health and Human Services for responses regarding reports that about one in three appeals to migrant children who had been handed over to their godparents between January and May of this year went unanswered. reply.
