Trinidad and Tobago’s health minister said on Wednesday government officials had “wasted” time “running [a] false statement ”made by Nicki Minaj of swollen testicles possibly linked to the COVID-19 vaccine.
Monday afternoon, the rapper said in a tweet that his “cousin in Trinidad will not receive the vaccine because his friend received it and has become impotent. His testicles became swollen. Minaj spent the night justifying her own vaccine skepticism, saying she still needs to do more research despite vaccines developed about a year ago.
She also said she would not get the shot to attend the Met Gala, where jabs are mandatory. Minaj then lashed out at the two fans who tried to send him credible vaccine research and media reporting on his tweets. At one point, Tucker Carlson jumped in to defend her.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Health, Dr Terrence Deyalsingh, said on Wednesday that to his ministry’s knowledge after spending much of Tuesday trying to trace the case, there has been ” absolutely no side effects or adverse events reported “matching Minaj’s description.
“But her tweet certainly didn’t help because people like her are social influencers and they have some influence,” he said Wednesday, according to local media outlet CNC3. “So it certainly didn’t help and will make our job a bit more difficult, which we don’t need at the moment. The vaccination rate in Trinidad is around 32 percent.
The minister joins a growing, if not swelling, group of medical professionals debunking Minaj’s narrative, including Dr Anthony Fauci and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. CNN chief medical correspondent Dr Sanjay Gupta also weighed in, saying any connection between the vaxx and the flaming bullets “is not a thing.”
There is also no evidence that the vaccine causes problems with male fertility.
Minaj continued to defend his views as the medical consensus on vaccine safety was affirmed and reaffirmed this week.
When UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s chief medical officer Chris Whitty said Minaj “should be ashamed” for “peddling untruths,” the rapper posted a bizarre audio message on Twitter, mocking Johnson with a fake accent British. “You don’t know much about me,” she said. “I’m a big, big star in America.”
