The Milwaukee Bucks have named Lisa Byington as the team’s new TV presenter on Bally Sports Wisconsin, making her the first woman to handle full-time TV duties for a major men’s professional sports team.

Byington replaces longtime Bucks announcer Jim Paschke, who retired after the 2020-21 season after serving as the team’s TV announcer for the past 35 years. Bucks and Fiserv forum chairman Peter Feigin announced the hiring of Byington on Wednesday.

In a statement, Byington said she was “absolutely thrilled” to be able “to work with a top class franchise and a championship organization like the Milwaukee Bucks.”

“I know I will take on the longtime role of Jim Paschke, and I appreciate his passion for the team and the memorable moments his voice will always be a part of,” said Byington. “I would be remiss if I didn’t recognize his work and his commitment to the franchise, and it is an honor for me to be the one to take over from him. I am especially delighted to be working with such an incredible team of Marques Johnson, Zora Stephenson, Steve Novak and everyone involved in the Bucks games at Bally Sports Wisconsin. “

Byington, who previously competed in the Women’s World Cup on FOX in 2019, became the first woman to call NCAA men’s basketball tournament games in March as part of CBS / Turner Sports coverage. She was then behind the microphone for the men’s and women’s football matches at the Tokyo Olympics for NBC Sports.

From 2017 to 2019, Byington worked as a secondary reporter for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on CBS and Turner, and she also has experience calling play-by-play for various NBA games and WNBA, among other missions.

“We are delighted to welcome Lisa to the Bucks family and bring such a talented play-by-play announcer to our broadcast team,” Feigin said in a statement. Lisa’s extensive broadcast experience, including her live work for top NCAA basketball on several national networks, makes her the perfect choice to take on this major role. While we appreciate the importance of Lisa’s selection, and we celebrate this historic moment, Lisa got this job because of her extraordinary skills and experience. We can’t wait for Lisa to become the voice of the Bucks. “
