After the Packers’ 38-3 loss to the Saints, quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he thought the team might be a little too high on themselves and that overconfidence contributed to the results.
Rodgers said in a subsequent interview that the team’s energy level was lacking and both comments suggest the Packers’ head was in the wrong place last Sunday. Wide receiver Davante Adams echoed this point of view during an appearance on NFL Network and said he believed the result was shocking enough to ensure it didn’t happen again.
“It got weird man. It was a weird game,” Adams said. “We had about 12 games in the first half. Our defense wasn’t going out of the field and it just wasn’t our. best demonstration We came out very flat and I think it will be a very good wake-up call for us.
Coming home to face the Lions on Monday night might prove to be exactly the balm the Packers need after the brutal first game, but games against the 49ers and Steelers in the coming weeks will likely be used more as a Measuring stick for where the team is after the disastrous opening.
