One Apex Legends club was absolutely baffled after EA hit them with an “inappropriate content” warning for their club name, despite it meaning… “rice stall” in Indonesian.
Clubs are quite useful in Apex Legends, allowing friends and strangers alike to band together under a common banner in Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale. But your club name is a tough decision, like a logo you’re willing to put on your jersey.
Well, just as the Washington football team has – until further notice – decided to represent football in their branding, one Apex Legends club have decided to represent their favorite Indonesian meal.
Unfortunately, EA doesn’t seem happy with the name, sending out a formal warning to members of the “Warteg Nasi” club. One such member (whose Reddit name is also related to food), “CrispySalty,” complained online.
We have been falsely warned because of the name of our club. of apexlegends
The club’s name, “Warteg Nasi”, roughly translates to “rice stall”, with a warteg being the shortened version of “warung tegal” (essentially a food stall) and nasi being rice (which foodies might recognize. of “nasi goreng”, Indonesian fried rice).
And, according to EA, the name “is in violation for being offensive, obscene, hateful or inappropriate.”
This obviously doesn’t make sense given rice’s history as a harmless food, but people in the comments have jumped to some conclusions. Most seem to believe that “war” or “nasi” have been reported.
Considering how racist gamers can enter anonymous online communities, it’s probably a good thing that EA is proactive in targeting workarounds. But it’s still unfortunate for CrispySalty and the Rice Stall Gang, who now have to find another way to represent their tastes.
So far, EA has not imposed any significant player bans, simply denying the club’s name. CrispySalty therefore turned to a new less greedy club name: Team Octane 101281.
