IKEA launches Cyberpunk play furniture line

Cheap Swedish Meatballs Everyone! IKEA, that store where you bought that dresser that works quite well right now, is bringing out a line of play furniture. The line includes everything from ring lights to sleek, ergonomic chairs, and it’s all in a very cyberpunk style. You might even have to dye your hair a wacky color to really nail the whole design.

Taxi design reported on IKEA’s new furniture line, which she developed in collaboration with ASUS ‘Republic of Gaming (or ROG) division. ROG, as Wikitubia notes, is an ASUS subdivision that focuses on different types of computer hardware; including computers and accessories for gamers. (ASUS is a multinational computer and telephone hardware manufacturer known for its gaming computers.)

Obviously, the appearance of the lineup is subjective, but there’s no doubt that IKEA and ROG have focused on that “live streaming” vibe. Desk ring lights, for example, seem ideal for blowing up that quintessential modern day limelight. And for around $ 35 too! Accent LED lights also help set the mood for a night full of Twitch and bad drink decisions.

Unfortunately, IKEA only has a few desks, the ring light, and a small storage unit available for online reading right now. Which means it’s hard to estimate how much a room filled with this play furniture can cost. Although we’re guessing about $ 1,000? A gaming desk costs around $ 300 on its own, and the storage unit is $ 170. And YouTube knows how many ring lights people will need. This is what makes a selfie a “self-portrait” after all.

IKEA says it will be phasing out the full line online and in stores in October of this year. There doesn’t appear to be a list of upcoming products, but everything in the photos above is probably purchasable. One thing we would love to see IKEA add, however, is a secure and prominent place to put our scented meatball candles.
