Prince Charles is planning major reshuffles if he inherits the throne, including reducing the monarchy to seven major figures and turning Buckingham Palace into a museum – something his mother, the Queen, would be strongly against.
A royal source told the Mirror that the museum project “will not happen any time soon” as long as Her Majesty is in government.
The palace is where the Queen raised her four children and presided over her decades on the throne. She opened it to the public in 1993, allowing visitors to tour parts of the 775-room palace, but not the family apartments.
“She’s not very keen on this particular idea and of course thinks it should remain some kind of family home,” the source added.

“Her Majesty The Queen will go between Windsor Castle, which she considers her main London base, and will also spend two to four days a week at the renovated Buckingham Palace,” the source told the outlet. “So for now, whatever you read, it doesn’t look like Prince Charles is going to do what he wants anytime soon.”

One of the reasons Charles may be looking to unload the mega-house is the cost, which is in the millions to maintain. It was last restored during WWII, and although a $ 500 million renovation was approved in 2016, it won’t be ready until 2027.
