Determined to protect his turf, Divine Child walked away with an unbalanced victory over Southgate Anderson on Friday night in front of a large homecoming crowd.

Host Falcons was up 28 points at halftime and added two touchdowns in the third quarter to finally come away with a 42-0 win in the non-league game.
With the blowout, Divine Child (3-1) tied his season high in points, as he also scored 42 points in a season opener loss to Riverview. Since that loss, the Falcons have won three straight games and outscored each opponent by double digits.
“I think we were a little more physical and played faster today and did a few games,” Divine Child coach John Filiatraut said. “Southgate had a few issues, but they were very competitive in their games. I love the way we got there and took it over and kind of controlled the game. ”
Running back Nick Persichetti had 164 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Persichetti opened the scoring in the game with a 35-yard run to the end zone with four minutes remaining in the first quarter.
At the start of the second quarter, Persichetti got his second touchdown of the night on a 1st and goal play from Anderson’s 4-yard line and that gave the home team a 14-0 lead. .
“Nick Persichetti is a good fullback and that’s all there is to it,” said Filiatraut. “We couldn’t block everyone and we still managed the running game. So we will count on that. We think this must be our bread and butter.
The Titans (0-4, 0-3 DRL) certainly had their chances in attack on Friday night.
On a 1st and 10 play, quarterback Chase Barbosa connected with Andrew Gates for a 52-yard reception. Anderson came as close as Divine Child’s 10-yard line, but the Falcons’ stifling defense forced a turnaround on the downs.
Overall, Divine Child limited the Titans to just 23 yards on the ground and 105 yards on the pass. The Falcons also scored on defense as Benjamin Spahn caught a pass in the third quarter and traveled 35 yards the other way for a touchdown that capped the night’s scoreline.
Falcons quarterback Robert LaLain had 120 yards and two touchdowns in the win and rushed to score. Both LaLain’s goals were captured by Carson Sampson, including a 27-yard catch and 23-yard reception, the latter of which came in the last minute of the first half. Sampson finished with three receptions for 60 yards and two touchdowns.
The next stop for Divine Child is another non-league game, as he heads to Pontiac Notre-Dame on Friday night. The Titans will return to the Downriver League with a Friday night home game against Taylor High.
