6 injured in Rockville Pike metrobus crash; Crashed Minivan – NBC4 Washington

Six people are injured after a chain accident in Rockville involving a Metrobus and three cars, Montgomery County officials said. A child and the Metrobus operator are among the victims, and one person has life-threatening injuries.

Montgomery County Police said that at approximately 12:20 p.m. Sunday, a southbound Metrobus on Route 355 (Rockville Pike) lost control and swerved into Congressional Lane.

The front of the bus landed and came to rest on a Honda Passport, police said, crushing the hood of the van and the driver’s seat.

A white car with serious damage to the front could also be seen. First responders appeared to be helping people nearby.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services said first responders helped a total of six patients. One person sustained serious life-threatening injuries. Three other people suffered traumatic injuries and were also taken to hospital. Two people refused to be taken to hospital.

There were no passengers aboard the Metrobus red line shuttle service, Metro said in a statement. The bus operator was among those injured and suffered injuries that are not considered life threatening, Metro said.

Information on the child’s condition was not immediately available.

It was not immediately clear why the bus deviated.

A lane from Rockville Pike to Congressional Lane is closed, police say. The Collision Reconstruction Unit is on site and the area is expected to be closed for several hours.
