The potentially bad taste of holding the 2021 Emmys on Sunday night was vehemently voiced by a celebrity presenter.
Seth Rogen, the evening’s first presenter at the annual awards show, commented on the possibly non-COVID security of the event in his opening speech.
“I went from wiping my groceries to Paul Bettany to sneezing in his face,” the actor said with a laugh.
As the Emmys take place outside, technically the tent housing the awards show, which has around 800 attendees, appears to be closed.
Rogen commented on the tent during his speech, saying, “They said it would be outside. It isn’t. We’re in a tightly sealed tent. They lied to us.”
All participants were required to show proof of vaccination to attend.
Before the first commercial break, Reggie Watts, the evening’s DJ, pointed out that the event followed strict COVID-19 health protocols, possibly trying to cover up Rogen’s comments.
Later, the evening’s host, Cedric the Entertainer, took to the stage to once again emphasize the safety of the event.
“You had to get vaxxed to come here,” he said. “I didn’t have a reaction like Nicki Minaj’s cousin’s friend,” he added, referring to a recent tweet from the rapper.
