Adam Duvall and Max Fried lead the Braves to a 3-0 win over the Giants

Adam Duvall hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning in support of a strong performance from Max Fried to help the Atlanta Braves end a four-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants.

The Braves needed a good start from Fried and he delivered. Fried gave Donovan Solano a start single in the third set. Anthony DeSclafani took him to second with a bunt, but Fried then made sure Darin Ruf was knocked out and Austin Slater flew to end the round. Slater hit a single with two strikeouts in the sixth, then stole the second. However, Fried took Kris Bryant at bat to leave him stranded.

The first six innings of Sunday’s game were eerily reminiscent of Saturday’s loss. The Braves had several chances to concede against DeSclafani, but continued to come away empty. That changed in the seventh when Austin Riley started the round with a deep right center double. This brought Adam Duvall to the plate who worked the count at 2-2, then jumped over an elevated slider for a two-runner shot to put Atlanta ahead 2-0.

That shot opened the floodgates for Atlanta as Eddie Rosario followed with a solo right shot to take the lead to 3-0.

Fried called the team out to allow Brandon Crawford to score with his 99th pitch of the game. He allowed just three hits and one walk to go along with five strikeouts.

Luke Jackson took over in the eighth. Wilmer Flores hit a single in the infield of Ozzie Albies’ glove, but was later wiped out as Brandon Belt sank into a 3-6-3 double play.

Eddie Rosario led Atlanta’s ninth and scored on the first pitch he saw from Kervin Castro to complete the round. Rosario is the eighth player in franchise history to hit for the cycle and the second to do so this season joining Freddie Freeman.

Will Smith threw in an uneventful ninth to close things off.

The Braves score a well-deserved victory and will maintain at least one game lead in the NL East pending the outcome of tonight’s game between the Phillies and Mets. The Braves avoid the sweep and will continue their road trip to Arizona on Monday as they start a four-game series against the Diamondbacks.
