ATHENS, Georgia. – The October 2 clash between Georgia and No.16 Arkansas will start early. The SEC announced Monday that the game will begin at 12 p.m. ET and will be televised by ESPN.

This will be the second meeting between the two programs in as many seasons. UGA kicked off the 2020 season in Arkansas with an afternoon kickoff. UGA won that game 37-10 and it was Sam Pittman’s first as the Razorbacks head coach.

Pittman had spent the previous four seasons at Georgia as an offensive line coach. He left Athens as one of the Bulldogs’ most beloved assistant coaches in recent memory due to his ability to recruit and coach. He made an incredible turnaround on the UGA offensive line between the 2016 and 2017 seasons, taking the squad from weakness to strength in no time.

“Well, we talked before the game,” Smart said after last year’s game between the UGA and Arkansas. “His kids believe and I know trying to start the program in Georgia starts with that fight and that competitiveness. I respect the way his team played and competed to the end. I love that he was trying to fight and compete in the end to score. Timeouts called. I have a lot of respect for that. The kids need this opportunity. We are only guaranteed 10 games and these are not guaranteed in the pandemic we’re in. You better take advantage of it and go play and they competed throughout the game.

The Bulldogs will face Vanderbilt this Saturday in a game starting at 12 p.m. ET (SEC Network). Two of Georgia’s first three games in 2021, Clemson and South Carolina, were evening kickoffs. The match with UAB in the second week kicked off at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Arkansas will have a 3-0 start in 2021. They beat Texas in week two and face Texas A&M next Saturday.
