OpenSea, one of the most popular NFT marketplaces, has launched its first app for iOS and Android. The application allows OpenSea users to view the platform’s collection of digital objects, but in particular does not allow any type of money to change hands, digital or otherwise (via TechCrunch).
The OpenSea application basically works as a kind of gallery. You can browse the artwork, share the listings you find, and lovingly browse and manage your own NFTs. The app shares many of the same blue and white styles from the OpenSea site, just missing the button that says “Buy Now”.
There are several possible reasons why NFT’s actual purchases are missing. At the most obvious and highest level, OpenSea probably doesn’t want to share a 30% reduction in NFT transactions with Apple and Google. It doesn’t help the people selling the work, and it doesn’t help OpenSea. The other complicating factor is that OpenSea payments are frequently in Ethereum, which is currently not supported as an in-app payment method on either platform.
On paper, the OpenSea app pursues the company’s goal of “making NFTs more accessible to all,” but without the key economic element – one that is sold to struggling artists and that investors speculate on. starving – above all, it will be another way. to watch beautiful JPEGs. The application is also launched at a difficult time for the company. OpenSea’s product manager Nate Chastain made a high-profile exit from the company last week following accusations of NFT insider trading.
