Each week, as soon as the Sunday smoke clears, we have a collection of fantastic pickups that are priced and prioritized for your convenience. All of the players mentioned here are available in the majority of Yahoo’s fantastic leagues and, unless otherwise noted, all are approved for immediate use.
Large receivers to prioritize
We put it forward and highlighted it again during the preseason, and then we D– brought it back to mind after a thrilling opening week performance. And yet we are there. For some reason, Moore still hangs out unlisted in nearly 70% of Yahoo’s leagues. It’s hard to imagine a fantastic manager thinking he has enough of a share in Nintendo’s ridiculous Arizona offense. Just look at this nonsense …
Moore finished with seven catches for 114 yards and that long scoring on eight targets, the team’s top. Basically, the Cardinals found an electrical receiver with a speed below 4.3 to absorb Larry Fitzgerald’s old targets. Moore was a monstrously productive player at Purdue when he was in good health and he’s now opened his NFL career with 11 catches for 182 yards in his first two games. He is able to stupidity like that.
I don’t care if you’ve ever stacked Kyler Murray with DeAndre Hopkins, you probably should always chase after Moore if he’s still available. This will serve as the last call. Moore is expected to be strongly on the list after the clear waivers on Wednesday.
Waiver Offer (assuming a budget of $ 100): $ 18
Another game, another peak. Patrick has a size (6’4) and a separation ability, which makes him a friendly target near the end zone …
Jerry Jeudy’s absence leaves a bunch of targets up for grabs, and Patrick clearly has his QB’s full confidence. Denver hosts the Jets on Sunday, so it’s definitely on the line for Patrick to make a home visit in a third straight game. He gave us 742 yards and six touchdowns with Drew Lock as a quarterback last year; he should meet or exceed those totals this season, assuming good health.
Offer: $ 6
You can almost forgive Arizona for neglecting to cover Osborn on that long TD …
… because most of us neglected him for weeks, thinking the Minnesota No. 3 catcher role was largely irrelevant. But with two games on the books, Osborn has up to 12 receptions and 167 yards on 15 targets. The script for the game has certainly been his friend – Kirk Cousins has attempted 81 passes so far – and the good times should continue in Week 3 against Seattle.
Osborn was the main receiver for the Miami Hurricanes in 2019, a year when that status meant little. He was a fifth-round draft pick who worked his way into a situation where he rarely left the field; he played 81% of the offensive snaps in Minnesota’s first game. Osborn will of course continue to benefit from the attention paid to Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. Throw it up if you need a deep league PPR flex.
Offer: $ 6
Additional WR and TE of interest: Darius Slayton (he’s seen 13 targets in two games and Atlanta’s generous defense is on the bridge), Henry Ruggs III (it’s so easy to convince yourself of this guy when you remember its military grade speed), Hunter Renfrow (if you’re a deep league PPR player you should probably care about Renfrow’s 16 targets), Freddie Swain (he caught his five targets from Russell Wilson, with a 68-yard TD included) , Jared Cook (he shot 13 targets in the first few weeks and had one touchdown canceled by a penalty on Sunday), Dawson Knox (here’s a cheap slice of Buffalo’s offense and he peaked in the week 2).
Quarters to consider
Danny Dimes deserved so much better Thursday night. He deserved a victory, on the one hand. He also deserved at least one more TD, but Darius Slayton couldn’t recover a well-pitched deep ball that slipped out of the receiver’s hands in the end zone. And then there was Jones’ long hasty TD, wiped out by a pending call.
Still, the third-year quarterback managed to finish with 249 passing yards and a scoring Thursday while rushing for a high 95 yards and another touchdown. He’s certainly not the reason the Giants opened the season 0-2. Her rapid rise has been underestimated (until recently) and it’s hard not to like her receiving body. His touchdown pass against Washington was a nice ball that Slayton managed to catch …
This week, Jones gets the defense for Atlanta, a group that has already allowed eight touchdown passes and a zillion yards (roughly). He’s going to have a hard time not finishing in the top 10 for fantastic QBs.
Offer: $ 8
Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers (15%)
Darnold gets a game in the spotlight Thursday night against a Houston defense who just gave Cleveland 31 points. He is also the one who throws darts in the direction of DJ Moore …
The ghosts seem to have disappeared for Darnold. He was very effective in directing two early wins. Her welcoming staff is excellent and the upcoming schedule is a gift: to Hou, Dal, Phi, Min, NYG, Atl. Darnold is a good bet to deliver some top 12 positions over the next month and a half.
Offer: $ 6
Various other QBs with interest: Teddy Bridgewater (he just scored 328 and two touchdowns, before a home game with the Jets), Taylor Heinicke (it’s not always a clinic, but he just finished a 336-yard game and he gets the Falcons in week 4), Derek Carr (the man opened his season with a pair of sidelines, but delivered 817 passing yards and four spikes. Not too bad.)
Ball carriers deserving of attention
Cordarrelle Patterson, Atlanta Falcons (15%)
Much has gone horribly wrong for Atlanta so far, but Patterson has been a notable success. Wherever he lines up and however his team chooses to use him, he is simply a weapon.
Patterson converted a dozen touches to 69 scrum yards and two touchdowns against the Bucs, again serving as a U-turn behind Mike Davis. He’s caught seven of his eight targets in two games and is averaging 4.6 YPC. It’s not like the Falcons are overloaded with playmakers, so Patterson will likely continue to handle a significant workload. He is also the rare WR-RB eligible player; if it ends up getting into an even bigger workload, it’ll be like cheat code for your fancy list.
If you’ve relied on Davis this season, you’re probably not happy with the early results. Let us simply note that Davis continues to dominate backfield snaps and he treated 34 keys in two weeks. The disappointment is understandable, but don’t overreact.
Offer: $ 10
Other BRs to add: Sony Michel (Darrell Henderson suffered a rib injury and Michel ran well in relief; he is actually 60% in the squad, but he was among the most abandoned players after the first game), Tony Pollard (like Michel, he’s just above the 50% signed-up threshold that we like to use here, but honestly he shouldn’t be available anywhere), JD McKissic (just when we thought Antonio Gibson had claimed a role receiving more important, JDM catches five balls for 83 yards on six targets), James White (he found the end zone on Sunday and his six receptions led the team), Michael Carter (he is available in 50% of the leagues Yahoo and just managed 13 touches), Zack Moss (he’s clearly behind Devin Singletary at the moment, but he visited the end zone in Buffalo’s resounding victory over Miami), Kenneth Gainwell (rookie is the # 2 clear in Philly’s backfield, having managed 19 touches in two weeks), Phillip Lindsay (he has a supporting role in Houston, but he broke the plane in consecutive weeks).
A defense for those who stream
Carolina Panthers D / ST (19%)
The Carolina defense has been terribly dashing in two wins, allowing just 21 points overall while dropping opposing quarterbacks 10 times and intercepting three assists. This group completely halted Jameis Winston’s revival in Week 2, limiting him to 111 passing yards and eliminating him twice. Even if you don’t fully believe the Panthers are legitimate, you have to love the upcoming clash with Houston (and possibly rookie Davis Mills) in Week 3.
