New proof of vaccination requirements went into effect Monday in the Bay Area’s largest city as well as across the state.
For those traveling to the SAP Center in San Jose to see Simone Biles and the Gold Over America or WWE Smackdown or Alejandro Fernandez tour, they will need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to participate in these events.
The City of San José’s proof of vaccination requirement applies to any city-owned venue that is hosting an event with 50 or more people in attendance. Thus, in addition to the “Shark Tank,” sites may include the San Jose McEnery Convention Center, the San Jose Civic, the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts, the Tech Interactive Museum, and the Children’s Discovery Museum.
The new rule may also impact events at San Jose city hall, libraries and community centers.
According to the new order, anyone 12 years of age or older must show proof of vaccination, and there is no option to show a negative COVID-19 test.
State rules are also changing, effective Monday. The option to show a negative test within 72 hours of an event is still valid, but now the vaccine testing and proof requirement applies to any event with 1,000 people or more and to outdoor events with 10,000 people or more.
“I think it’s good that they are trying to be safe, and it was very crowded,” resident Sarena Love said in support of the vaccine evidence.
Statewide guidelines could change once COVID-19 cases or vaccination rates are more favorable, but they are in effect until at least November 1.
