“We will probably, as a committee, issue subpoenas to witnesses or organizations within a week,” said Representative Bennie Thompson of Mississippi.

Earlier this month, the committee issued a thinly veiled threat against social media companies, saying the panel still needed “a lot more information” and would use any means available to compel them. to cooperate.

On Monday, Thompson declined to detail which companies were cooperating with the select committee and which companies resisted requests.

“Some have been good, some not so good,” said Thompson.

The panel also asked various telecommunications companies to keep records of a long list of individuals, including a group of current Republican members of Congress, who were instrumental in the “Stop the Steal” rally that served. as a prelude to the Capitol uprising – in case the committee needs it.

Thompson said Monday that while subpoenas of individual lawmakers haven’t been made at this point, that doesn’t mean it’s out of the question.

“They haven’t been discussed. But that doesn’t mean it won’t happen,” he said.

Thompson said the committee had scheduled its first closed-door hearings. The committee has not held a public hearing since its first in late July.
