NORTH PORT, Fla .– The FBI and police will resume the search for Brian Laundrie on a 25,000-acre reserve in Florida on Tuesday – just a day after it was called off.

Authorities will return to the Carlton Reservation where Laundrie, 23, is believed to have gone missing on a hike a week ago after being named a person of interest in the disappearance of his girlfriend Gabby Petito.

The FBI is now leading the criminal investigation, North Port Police Department spokesman Josh Taylor said in a statement.

“A weekend of ground search and air search Monday of the 25,000 acres [39-square-mile] preserve hasn’t given answers yet, but we must continue, ”Taylor said.

“Please know that the Carlton Reservation is a vast and ruthless place at times. He is currently in waist-deep water in many areas.

“It’s dangerous work for search teams as they wade through alligator and snake infested swamps and flooded hiking and biking trails.”

Authorities suddenly called off the search for laundry on the Carlton reservation early on Monday. It was not immediately clear what triggered the renewed research efforts in the region.

FBI agents stormed Laundrie’s home on Monday and declared it a “crime scene” before taking her parents out.
