The New England Patriots cheating scandals didn’t stop at Spygate and Deflategate, according to Peyton Manning.
Manning said he knew the Patriots tapped the visitors’ locker room at Gillette Stadium with hot microphones to eavesdrop on conversations between opposing players.
“Every time I played against New England I would talk to my receivers in the showers,” Manning said on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football Manning” show during the Week 2 game between the Packers. Green Bay and the Detroit Lions.
“Don’t talk about a game by my locker because I know it’s bugged. I know there’s a hot mic in there. Very strange to see seven guys hanging out in the shower.
Manning, who has spent much of his career in a duel with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, has previously accused the Patriots of disturbing the opposing locker room.
In 2010, while Manning was with the Indianapolis Colts, Peter King reported Manning’s initial belief that the Patriots had hot mics in the visitors’ locker rooms at Gillette Stadium.
Former Colts head coach Tony Dungy has confirmed Manning is concerned that the Patriots eavesdrop on conversations between him and his receivers when playing in New England. During an appearance on the “Dan Patrick Show” in 2015, Dungy said his quarterback would take his receivers in the hallway to have important conversations.
“I know that’s very true, and, you know, as Peyton was talking to some guys who were playing for the Patriots, some of the guys who came – whether it’s true or not, he treated it like real. We didn’t have a lot of strategic discussions in the locker room there, ”Dungy said. “Peyton takes everything to the nth degree.”
Minutes after Manning blatantly suggested the Patriots were cheating on national television, he invited former Patriots franchise tight end Rob Gronkowski to appear on the show. Manning and Gronkowski discussed football and their past rivalry, but no allegations of cheating against the Patriots were raised in this conversation.
