JJ Redick definitely hangs up his jersey after 15 years in the NBA.
The sniper announced his retirement in an Instagram post – as well as on his “Old Man and the Three” podcast on Tuesday, in a special episode titled “Retirement.”

Redick has just had a tough season, averaging 7.4 points per game in 44 games, in part due to a heel injury. New Orleans traded him to Dallas on the deadline in March – something he made it clear he was not happy.
Before his announcement, it was rumored that Redick was interested in the Nets or the Knicks, as he and his family live in Brooklyn.

“First team. Last team. So Grateful for everything else,” he wrote in his caption. “Today I officially retire from basketball. Thank you to ALL who have been a part of my game. course and my career.
“I started playing basketball 30 years ago in my backyard on an uneven surface of dirt, gravel and grass. It was on this ground that my dreams began to take shape. Reality has far exceeded my dreams !! So grateful for 15 years in the NBA and all the amazing connections and memories along the way. ”
Redick then noted the obstacles that made his last season “difficult”.
“At the start of last season I wanted it to be my last year, but I wasn’t sure how the season would go,” he said in his podcast announcement.
“Being injured, being away from my family, Covid protocols and really not up to my standards. I would like to describe last season as a seven month exercise and a face to face with my own sports mortality and it was scary and confusing.
He said his fear and confusion were two reasons he would tell teams who called during free agency that he would decide his fate “later” and “not commit to anything unless I did. be sure of it “.
In late August, Redick said in an episode of his podcast that he would not be in training camp to start the season – but would make a decision as to where he would fit “in the next two or three. month”.
However, after gaining “some clarity” on his future, Redick said in his retirement announcement: “It’s time for me to be a dad. It’s time for me to reflect, to take a break, and it’s time for me to prepare for the next phase of my life.
Redick was drafted No.11 by the Magic in the 2006 NBA Draft, after an impressive four-year career at Duke where he was the Consensus College Player of the Year in his senior season (2006). He was known for his marksmanship and three-point shooting in college, which successfully transitioned to his NBA career.
Redick spent six seasons in Orlando before being traded to the Bucks in 2013. He then played for the Clippers, Sixers, Pelicans and Mavericks before becoming a free agent. He retires as the 15th best three-point shooter in NBA history.
