Daniel Craig thinks James Bond shouldn’t be a woman

Daniel Craig would rather see the sky fall than watch James Bond being played by a woman.

The former James Bond onscreen told Radio Times he believed there were “better” roles for women than James Bond.

“Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a role as good as James Bond, but for a woman?” Craig, 53, told Radio Times.

Craig’s statement comes the week before the release of the upcoming Bond film “No Time To Die,” which hits theaters on October 8.

His comments echo those of franchise producer Barbara Broccoli, who told Variety in 2020 that “James Bond can be any color, but he’s a man.”

She added that she would rather write new characters specifically for women, rather than make the iconic lead role a woman.

“I think we should be making new characters for women – strong female characters,” she told Variety. “I’m not particularly interested in taking a male character and having it played by a female. I think women are much more interesting than that.

But now Lashana Lynch could be the next 007.

In “No Time To Die,” the West London actress, 33, will play an M16 agent named Nomi, according to the Guardian, with rumors that she will inherit Bond’s 007 title in the film, making her ‘she the first woman to play the character of a well-known agent.

For Lynch, anyone can play the iconic role of Bond, because no matter what, audiences will always be watching the movies in the franchise.

“With Bond, it could be a man or a woman,” Lynch told The Guardian. “They could be white, black, Asian, mixed race. They can be young or old. In the end, even if a two year old played Bond, everyone would come to the movies to see what this two year old boy is going to do, right?

She added, “We are in a time when the industry doesn’t just give the public what they think the public wants. They actually give the public what they or they want to give to the public.
