Gmail on Android has always felt rather neglected compared to its desktop counterpart. At this time, it is not possible to configure and change filters for incoming mail in the mobile app, and you cannot use custom inboxes. While we have given up on seeing this feature in the app, Google has at least moved on to bring a more minor but still useful feature to Gmail on Android. The company has announced that you will soon be able to use search filters in Gmail mobile, called bullet points.

Filters in Gmail mobile are pretty much the same as those available in the desktop version, first introduced in February 2020. Once you launch a query, you’ll find a selection of drop-down menus (or bullets) below the bar search engines that allow you to further refine your search. You can select specific senders or recipients, specific dates and date ranges, and choose whether or not the email you want contains attachments.

The chips are deployed to the application as a server-side change. A Twitter user gave us a tip that filters are available to him in a recent version of the app, but installing the latest version of Gmail from APK Mirror wouldn’t change anything for us when we tried. It looks like we’ll have to be patient, with Google anticipating a completed rollout by the end of October.

9to5Google has noticed another small change being rolled out to the mobile app. The new Material You bottom bar has shrunk very slightly so it uses less vertical space. It’s now closer to the way things were before the redesign. With the extra-bulky bottom bar still visible in other Google apps, the question remains whether Google wants to go for this little overhaul for all apps or not.
