A Texas restaurant has kicked out a couple for wearing masks to protect their immunocompromised baby.

Natalie Wester and her husband were kicked out of the Hang Time Sports Grill & Bar in Rowlett, Texas on September 10 along with their four-month-old son, The Washington Post reported.

Tom Blackmer, the owner of the restaurant, told the Washington Post that there is a mask ban at his establishment and the hostess tells everyone who enters to take off their masks.

“I spent my money in the business, my blood sweat and my tears in this business, and I don’t want masks here,” Blackmer Recount CBS DFW.

Wester said she misunderstood the hostess and thought they just needed to take off their masks for a while to compare their IDs with their faces. She and her husband put on the masks to order food and drink.

“Our waitress came over, sat down next to me and said, ‘Our manager told me to come over because I’m nicer than him … But it’s political and I need you to take your masks, “” Wester told the local. exit.

Wester told the waitress that her son has cystic fibrosis, which makes him more likely to get seriously ill with colds, flu and COVID-19. But he was still told they had to pay their bill and leave if they refused to take off their masks.

The couple posted about the incident on Facebook, causing backlash for the couple and the restaurant from pro and anti-mask commentators, according to The Post.

Some have accused the couple of hypocrisy, pointing to photos of the couple who walked out without masks. Wester said she only removed the masks for the photos.

Blackmer told the Post he hadn’t been able to sleep for two days and had to leave his Dallas apartment since he was doxed on Twitter. “This town is trying to burn me down,” he said.

However, he does not regret his choice to kick the couple out.

“It’s true,” he said, “and if we don’t have a business next week, we’ll be fine.”
