Vice President Kamala Harris said on Tuesday she was “deeply disturbed” by images from the border showing border patrol officers on horseback blocking migrants from entering the United States – the latest administration official to join the crowd against the officers who face a colossal wave of migrants in Del Río.
“What I saw of these people on horseback treating human beings the way they were was horrible,” Harris told reporters. “And I fully support what’s going on right now, which is a thorough investigation of exactly what’s going on there. But human beings should never be treated that way. And I’m deeply troubled by it. I will also talk to the secretary [Alejandro] Mayorkas on this today. “
DHS ACCELERATES EXECUTION FLIGHTS TO HAITITI AS OFFICIALS SCRUB TO CONTAIN DEL RIO MIGRANT LEAK
Harris was reacting to images of border patrol agents in Del Rio, where thousands of Haitians have flocked in recent days. The footage showed officers on horseback preventing migrants from entering the United States and, in one case, seizing a migrant’s shirt.
Overwhelmed officers have worked six days a week and more than 10 hours a day as they deal with the more than 14,000 migrants, mostly Haitians, who once camped under the international bridge – and tens of thousands of others would be on their way.
As DHS increased its resources, including more officers on horseback, supplies and medical assistance, while increasing deportation flights, the men and women in green tried to prevent migrants – who have traveled to several countries before arriving at the border – to come to American territory.
Border Patrol officers who spoke to Fox News were angered by the administration’s stacking up and accused it of trying to deviate from its inability to control the border.
“This whole situation is exploding and even the Liberals are turning against this administration,” an agent told Fox News. “[Harris] blames the agents for turning away because she and Biden aren’t going to change the way they handle this. “
Another source was more direct, saying the outrage “just proves how utter idiots they are.”
BIDEN COMMITS TO PUTTING THE BORDER “UNDER CONTROL” IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE NEW MIGRANT CRISIS IN DEL RIO
“With basic knowledge and two brain cells, everyone knows these agents use split reins. They use them like a whip, on their horses,” the agent said. “This allows for a faster response from the horse to exit when needed, especially when the horse may be hesitant with groups of people or other animals.”
“Once again, it is clear that the ‘officials’, a disgusting term to use, have no idea of our operations and operate frankly out of ignorance and deranged emotions,” the agent said.
Some Democrats and the media have falsely described the agents’ long reins, which they use to control their horses, as “whips.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi condemned what she described as “the improper use of what appear to be whips by border patrol officers on horseback to intimidate migrants.”
Mayorkas and border patrol chief Raul Ortiz both said on Monday they saw nothing wrong with the footage, and Mayorkas stressed that officers were using long reins to control their horses, not whips, on a difficult terrain. Ortiz also noted that officers do not know who are smugglers and who are migrants.
Ortiz said it is important for officers to keep control of the horse to avoid injury to officers and migrants, and said working a horse in a river is a very difficult task.
But the White House took a different point of view. Press secretary Jen Psaki said: “I don’t think anyone who saw these images would think it was acceptable or appropriate.”

Tuesday morning, Mayorkas had changed perspective.
“I was horrified by what I saw,” Mayorkas told CNN. “I will let the investigation take its course. But the images I observed have deeply disturbed me. It defies any values that we seek to instill in our people.”
