Inglewood (Calif.) Quarterback Justyn martin disengaged from Cal.

Once Martin started making his official visits, there was always a feeling that a Bears disengagement was a strong possibility. Earlier today, the talented flagman decided to open his recruiting.

“It was definitely a tough decision,” said Martin. “It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a little while and the timing just felt right. I want to go through the recruiting process and do a few visits and just thought it best to do it without being hired anywhere.

“I still love Cal and I told Coach Wilcox that I was still interested in them but I’m not sure what they think on their side. I’m just looking for the best overall situation for me and where I can develop the best. “

Martin made a commitment to Cal in January. Following his engagement, he received scholarship offers from Michigan, Ole Miss and UCLA. He visited the rebels over the weekend and praised the trip.

“I really liked it there,” Martin said. “The atmosphere was cool but it rained quite hard and there was a delay due to lightning, so a lot of the fans who were following never made it back to the stadium.

“It was always a great experience and that offense is something else. Ole Miss is one of the best programs in the country and their offense is one of the best if not the best in the country. I know I would be a good candidate because than the way they use Matt Coral, running and throwing and I think I fit in perfectly with that pattern as well. “

Martin said he has also developed a good relationship with the coaches.

“I really like Coach Kiffin and Coach Lebby,” said Martin. “The whole coaching staff is amazing and they really built this program. Like I said, Ole Miss is one of the country’s best conference schools in the country, so I definitely have a lot of ‘interest.

“As far as the depth graph goes, I think that’s a good fit as well. They don’t have a ton of depth right now and I could come in and potentially compete early. It’s definitely different in the South. in terms of the weather, but I think I could get used to it and have a chance to play in an offense like that would be pretty special. “

Martin’s next visit could be as early as this weekend.

“I could visit Michigan this weekend for the Rutgers game,” Martin said. “I’ve spoken to them every now and then since they proposed. Once I disengaged today, they blew up my phone and spoke with me, my dad and my coaches.

“Courtney Morgan contacted Coach Fig (Malik James), then Coach Weiss contacted me. We have a day game on Friday so I could get on the plane and over there right after. a match day would be a great experience so we’ll see if we can lock that down for sure. ”

Martin plans to visit UCLA (October 23) when the Bruins host Oregon.

“I have a great relationship with the coaches at UCLA,” said Martin. “I probably speak with Coach Gunderson (Coach QB) more than anyone. I love the way they are playing this year, you can tell they are going in the right direction. They lost a tough game to Fresno State, but Fresno State is really good, so this loss does nothing to hurt their chances in my eyes.

“The trip will be fun as I will be leaving with a few of my teammates who have already committed there, Clint Stephens and TJ (Tomarion Harden). I’ve been to the first two home games this season and I definitely have a good level of comfort at UCLA right now.

USC is also involved and Martin has a good relationship with Marshall Cherrington (Director of Recruiting Strategy), who was one of Martin’s main recruiters when he was at Cal before joining USC.

“I just spoke to Marshall 15 minutes ago,” Martin said. “He’s a great guy and they want me to come visit him. They want me to come for a game weekend too and they’re just building a relationship with me right now so we’ll see what happens.

“Ideally, I’d like to make a decision soon after this visit to UCLA if I can. I don’t want to delay this too long and risk losing a spot somewhere. That’s one of the reasons why. which I made an early commitment to with Cal, to lock in my place and avoid the stress of recruiting, so I hope that by the end of October, beginning of November, I will be ready to go. “
