Texas Democrat Henry Cuellar fought with CNN presenter Victor Blackwell over the claim that border patrol agents were using whips against Haitian migrants.
On Tuesday, Cuellar appeared on “CNN Newsroom” to discuss the ongoing border crisis as well as viral footage of border patrol agents on horses apprehending Haitian migrants who were illegally crossing the border.
“Let me ask you about some of the images we see of border guards on horseback chasing or loading migrants onto these horses. At least one of them appears to be using what looks like a rope or a rope. lasso, ”Blackwell said.

Cuellar was quick to point out that border officials did not wear a whip or lasso when interacting with migrants.
“Certainly we have to make sure we treat all immigrants with respect and dignity, but I will say this. The border patrol has had these horse brigades for a while. They had them for a while, number one. Number two. , they don’t wear whips, and they don’t wear lassos.
“Should these be used, even if it’s a rein?” Blackwell asked.
“If there was a problem it should be investigated, and I think that’s it. But we can’t paint the Border Patrol with the same kind of brush. What are they supposed to do. do, stand there and let everyone in? They’re “supposed to be upholding the law,” Cuellar replied.
When Blackwell put more emphasis on the incident in the footage, Cuellar reiterated that the situation was under investigation, although the officer was not wearing a whip.
“Again, this incident will be looked into, but again, it’s not a whip. It’s not a lasso. They don’t wear this. It appears to be the reins of the horse itself,” said Cuellar said.
“You make a distinction between swinging a rein at someone using a whip. I don’t know if, as we’ve heard from the White House, they make that distinction,” Blackwell replied.

On Monday, various Democratic journalists and lawmakers repeated the account that border patrol agents were using whips against migrants attempting to cross the border into Texas.
