The feature will take advantage of the international standard SMART Health Cards (already in use in several states) to produce proof of vaccination, sign it with a private key, and create a public key to verify your information.
The newly released iOS 15 already allows you to store verifiable vaccination and test results in the Health app using the same standard. You will receive your records via QR codes, downloadable files, or healthcare providers who use health records on iPhone.
Apple promises strict privacy for all your data. The company will not have access to your imported or shared recordings, and all information must be encrypted and stored securely when transferred elsewhere. The tech giant also can’t see your vaccination record or how you used it. You can share information with “approved” third-party applications, but only on an ad hoc basis.
Apple hasn’t said when it might release the map update. You won’t be happy if you are anxious about even sharing your immunization status with a concert hall or restaurant. However, it should at least streamline the process, which is important when you’re already late for a show.
