Daniel Craig wants studios to go beyond casting a female James Bond

Daniel Craig is set to bow out as James Bond when No Time to Die finally hits theaters in October. Afterwards, everyone can guess who will be the next James Bond.

While there has been a lot of speculation and fan casting, nothing is set in stone. But when asked if a woman should play the next Bond, Craig said it would be a disservice for the actresses.

“There should just be better roles for women and actors of color,” Craig told RadioTimes when asked about a female Bond. “Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a role as good as James Bond, but for a woman?”

The comment echoes the sentiments of longtime James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, who said in 2020 that “James Bond can be any color, but he’s a man,” adding: “I think we should create new characters for women – strong female characters… I’m not particularly interested in taking a male character and having it played by a female, I think women are a lot more interesting than that.

In this regard, No Time to Die will have a 00 female agent who is not James Bond. Lashana Lynch is expected to play another agent in the film alongside Craig, and you can see Lynch in several trailers for the film.
