Ken Block hires Audi to work on electric cars

Audi and Ken Block today announced a new partnership that began with training in some classic cars and will focus on electric vehicles.

A video announcing the partnership was released today, showing Block looking at some of the car brand’s most iconic models. Indeed, Audi claims that the American driver has taken a seat in the Audi Sport quattro S1, the Audi V8 quattro from DTM and the Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo, among others, images which we hope to see soon.

“Audi is the brand that ignited my passion for motorsport,” Block said in a statement. “I am extremely excited to start this new chapter. Together, we will develop innovative projects and push the boundaries of electric mobility.

The rally and rallycross driver famous for bringing the world’s attention to Gymkhana also took a seat in Audi’s electric sports car.

“The Audi RS e-tron GT really surprised me,” says Block. “The design is exquisite with great attention to detail and a perfect finish. The driving experience is amazing: the car is incredibly fast and handles very well. The center of gravity is very low, so you can change direction quickly.

Unfortunately, what will happen to the partnership beyond the “exclusive joint projects in the field of electric mobility” has not yet been clarified, but based on what has been revealed, we anticipate that some videos of High performance driving will be available soon.

“Ken Block shares our love of performance,” says Henrik Wenders, Audi Brand Director. “He has the ability to inspire people. With his progressive thinking, he will accompany us on our way to an electrifying future. Welcome in the team!”

Block previously worked with Ford and collaborated with the brand to create high powered stunt cars for his Gymkhana videos. In January, however, he announced that his partnership with the brand would end after 11 years. Switching from the Hoonicorn, which required him to wear respiratory protection, to electric mobility can be a welcome change.

“I see the electric car as a leap forward for us as a society to create something that can not only reduce emissions and hopefully make the planet a better place,” Block said. “But not only: it’s also a question of performance. I like anything that makes me go faster. Electric cars can do it.
