Britney Spears shares a rare glimpse into the lives of her teenage sons.
Sean Preston and Jayden James – the boys she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline – turned 16 and 15, respectively, earlier this month. Back on Instagram, the pop star revealed how she celebrated their birthday as well as some information about their life, making a point of not sharing too much.
Along with a quote on the bond between mother and son, the 39 year old wrote: “My boys’ birthdays were last week… and unfortunately they are growing up and wanting to do their own things… I have to ask their permission to post them because they are extremely independent little men !!! Anyway we had a little party and the coolest ice cream cakes !!! “
She said her “babies” are now “so big” and “still growing”. Last week they attended a dance, in costume, “and I cried for two days … The girls are getting ready because my boys are so beautiful !!!”
Spears said that “there is a lot that I cannot share” about her sons because they are “very private, which I love.” However, “I will tell you that they are both extremely talented and I am incredibly blessed to have these two little men in my life.”
She ended by writing that if Preston and Jayden read her article, “which I’m sure they aren’t,” she wants them to know, “I love you so much, two little devils !!!”
Spears and Federline, a former support dancer, married in 2004, welcomed Preston in September 2005, Jayden in September 2006, then filed for divorce in November 2006. Spears reportedly suffered from postpartum depression as a result of her consecutive babies. , contributing to personal problems. that swelled. The singer – who had said that it was her dream since childhood to become a mother – lost custody of her sons in November 2007. This took into account two involuntary hospitalizations, then Spears was placed under the guardianship, under the direction of dad Jamie, in 2008.
While Spears and Federline eventually worked out a 50-50 custody deal, it was reduced in 2019 when Spears’ time was cut to 30%. The boys spend 70 percent of their time with Federline, who has six children with three wives. In 2018, Federline asked Spears for an increase in child support from $ 20,000 to $ 60,000 per month and a confidential agreement was reached with her paying “thousands” more per month.
In court that fought her guardianship in June, Spears heartbreakingly explained that she was separated from her sons on a public holiday, supposedly in 2018, while being medicated against her will. Months later, she said she was unwillingly placed in a mental health facility and was told she would not be able to see her children if she did not comply.
Addressing the court, she also said she wanted to have a baby with her now fiance, Sam Asghari, but was forced to use a birth control device, an IUD, against her will.
When Spears got her first iPad in August in the midst of her conservation battle, she noted that her sons had the devices – presumably bought with her money – but she didn’t. Under guardianship, she was not allowed to use the Internet without supervision. She was also not allowed to have an iPhone, only a cell phone that restricted calls.
While Spears said in her birthday post that the boys probably won’t see her post, they go online. In 2020, Jayden made headlines for doing an Instagram Live in which he was inundated with questions amid the #FreeBritney movement – and told a fan his mom could ‘stop’ the music because she was on indefinite break from work until his father was fired as curator. Jayden’s Instagram account was closed immediately after.
Also offering a glimpse into family dynamics, in 2019 Federline filed a restraining order against Spears ‘father after he allegedly had a physical altercation with Preston at Spears’ home. No charges have been laid.
The most recent new photo Spears posted of her “little independent men” was in March, while they were all out hiking. The boys were also pictured with their mother and Asghari.
Spears’ next guardianship hearing – which will focus on removing his father as a curator – is set for September 29.
