Representative Maxine Waters denounced the treatment of Haitian migrants arriving by the thousands at the southern border, saying what had happened was “worse than what we have seen in slavery”.

“I’m pissed off,” Waters said. “I’m unhappy and I’m not just unhappy with the cowboys who overthrown Haitians and used their reins to whip them. I am [unhappy] with the administration. “What we have witnessed takes us back hundreds of years,” Waters continued. “What we witnessed was worse than what we saw during slavery… cowboys with their reins, again, whipping black people.”

On Tuesday, the vice-chairman of the National Border Patrol Council, Art Del Cueto, objected to the allegations of agents whipping migrants.
