The announcement of a new Nintendo Switch controller could arrive this week

Nintendo is apparently working on another controller for the Switch, but details on the new device are about as sparse as they can get. The new controller was revealed in an FCC file (originally spotted by VGC) from Nintendo, which is simply titled “Game Controller.” What’s even more exciting is that the announcement is expected this week, according to a separate FCC file that appears to have been deleted after VGC spotted it.

One of the only information that can currently be found in the folder is that the controller will be wireless, connecting to the Switch via Bluetooth. Everything else about the controller, including its schematics, user manual and block diagram, has been kept confidential at Nintendo’s request.

In a letter to the FCC requesting confidentiality of these parts of the controller, a company representative wrote, “The application contains technical information that we consider to be trade and proprietary secrets. If made public, the information could be used to the detriment of the applicant in the market.

It’s important to note that this new device is unlikely to replace Nintendo’s Joy-cons, but rather another wireless alternative to the struggling controller. After an absence of almost four years, the Joy-con drift issues, in which one of the controller’s joysticks grabs a direction without being touched by the user, are still present. The problem was so widespread that Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa apologized for the default last year.

Although Nintendo failed to fix the Joy-Con drift issue for Switch owners, last July a YouTuber claimed to have found a permanent solution to the problem that uses only one piece of paper. .
