It’s not the Oscars, but it sure looks like it. The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is holding its opening gala tonight, September 25, with a guest list that includes Lady Gaga, Brad pitt, King Regina, Kristen stewart, Nicole kidman, Dear, Queen latifah, Angela Bassett, Kate hudson, Spike lee, Patty jenkins, Tiffany haddish and so many others.
The evening, co-chaired by Ava Du Vernay, Ryan murphy and Jason blum, honor Sophie loren and filmmaker Haile Gerima. Tom hanks, Annette Claire and Bob Iger are also recognized for their fundraising efforts for the museum.
Designed by a world famous architect Renzo Piano, the museum is located on the LACMA campus in Wilshire and Fairfax and opens to the public on September 30. During a press preview a few days before the gala, the director and president of the museum Bill kramer said he hoped the 300,000-square-foot complex would become “an instant landmark … a must-see destination for residents and visitors.”
