FARGO – Two men died and their passengers were seriously injured when their vehicles collided head-on early Sunday, September 26 in a construction area of ​​Interstate-29 seven miles south of Fargo.

A 2011 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Ricky Allen Pender of Moorhead, 66, was heading north on I-29 when, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, it crossed the center line of direct traffic into a construction area and struck a 2015 Ford Expedition southbound driven by Skylur Herman Koch, 27, of Fargo. Both men were killed in the crash shortly after 1 a.m. on Sunday.

Michele Dawn Pender, a 55-year-old passenger from Moorhead, Silverado, was seriously injured, as were David Thomas Mord, 38, of Fargo and Andrew Lee Kainpe, 32, of Fargo, both passengers on the expedition. . All three were taken to hospitals in the Fargo area.

The I-29 was closed for several hours after the crash and traffic was diverted to Cass County Road 81, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The I-29 was closed again from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday for investigators to reconstruct the crash scene.

The highway patrol was assisted at the scene by the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Kindred Ambulance, FM Ambulance, Horace Fire Department, Kindred Fire Department and Sanford AirMed.
