Former late-night host David Letterman crushed the Nets’ media day – and Kevin Durant was his target.
Letterman, who introduced himself as “Dave from Basketball Digest,” asked hard-hitting questions, such as “Why do people call you ‘KD’?
Durant explained the obvious and replied, “My first name is Kevin with a ‘K’ and my last name is Durant with a ‘D’.”
Things got out of hand when Letterman asked Durant about playing for the Knicks.
“I just spoke on the phone with the Dolan family, and they said they were talking to the [NBA] commissioner now. They’re looking to work out a contractual deal that will allow you, when you’re not playing for the Nets, days off, you can play for the Knicks, “he said, before asking Durant if he had any. “comments” about it.
An unamused Durant said, “Okay Dave, that was the last one.”
“I’m sorry, was that a comment?” Letterman responded, to which Durant said, “That was it.”
Letterman added that he was told to “wrap up” and “my time is up.”
Earlier, when asked “What percentage do you plan to give on the field” this season, Durant replied: “110”.
Durant remained mostly serious throughout Letterman’s random act, but burst out laughing when the longtime host asked, “When you play the Pelicans, does that make you laugh?”
The two-time NBA champion replied, “Yeah.”
It is not known why Letterman was in attendance at Brooklyn Media Day. He sitting among the journalists and wore a black mask, glasses and casual clothes.
Meanwhile, Nets star Kyrie Irving was not in person on media day due to health and safety protocols as he is not vaccinated against COVID-19. He is expected to speak to the media later today on Zoom.
Brooklyn will be hosting a training camp in San Diego. They visit the Lakers in a preseason game on October 3.
