Josh Gordon signing with Chiefs: Newly reinstated wide receiver joining Kansas City, report says

The Kansas City Chiefs fell to 1-2 on Sunday with their 30-24 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, but they would have made an addition that could end up helping the offense in a big way. Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Chiefs are planning to sign the recently reinstated Josh Gordon. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Gordon joins the training team until he knows about it.

Just days ago, it was reported that the NFL had told the struggling receiver he would be reinstated and could be back on the field by week 4. Gordon requested that he be reinstated in. the league in July. He was suspended in December 2019 for violating the league’s policies on drug addiction and performance-enhancing drugs – Gordon’s fifth violation of the league’s drug policy. Now he has yet another chance.

Gordon has only played a full 16-game season once, as a rookie in 2012. His second season in the NFL was special, catching 87 passes for a total of 1,646 yards and nine. touchdowns in just 14 games. However, he was never able to take advantage of this All-Pro campaign as the off-court problems started to pile up. He was suspended for 10 games in 2014 for violating league drug addiction policy, then suspended for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He would only play six more games for Cleveland before being traded to the New England Patriots in 2018.

It looked like Gordon was back on track in New England as he caught 40 passes for 720 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games played in 2018. However, in December, he announced he was stepping away from the field. , then it was reported that he had been suspended indefinitely for again violating the league’s drug addiction policy. Gordon was reinstated ahead of the 2019 regular season and played six games before injuring his knee. He was then released from the IR and landed with the Seattle Seahawks. Gordon played five games for them before being suspended again.

The Chiefs have searched the free agent market for a wide starting wide receiver this offseason, and have reportedly targeted Josh Reynolds and JuJu Smith-Schuster. However, they missed both and started the new season with familiar faces like Mecole Hardman, Byron Pringle, and Demarcus Robinson.

Gordon is now 30, but he was able to make an impact on the pitch wherever he went. The problem of course is that he couldn’t stay on the pitch due to his various missteps, but Andy Reid is taking a shot. The Chiefs saw an opportunity to catch an immediate impact player in Gordon, and they gave it a go.
