The Seattle Seahawks will again be without running back Rashaad Penny this weekend against the San Francisco 49ers.
Head coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday Penny is not expected to return this week due to calf strain that knocked him out of the season opener in Indianapolis.
Alex Collins handled Chris Carson’s backup duties in Penny’s absence.
Seattle is hoping wide receiver Dee Eskridge returns after missing the last two games with a concussion. Although he did not train on Wednesday, Eskridge was cleared to train on Thursday in the hopes that he would be ready to play on Sunday. Eskridge suffered a concussion in the first game against the Colts.
“We think he’s going to be good to go,” Carroll said.
Tight end Colby Parkinson and tackle Cedric Ogbuehi both returned to training after spending three weeks on the injured reserve list.
Parkinson’s fractured his foot last year before training camp with Seattle. He suffered a similar injury at training camp in August that was not as bad as it was a season ago. Ogbuehi suffered a bicep strain at the camp which prevented him from entering.
“They’re going to try to compete to be available to play, and we’ll see how that goes,” Carroll said.
Parkinson’s return would be welcome given that starter Gerald Everett entered the COVID-19 list on Wednesday and his status for Sunday is questionable at best. Ogbuehi could also start on the right tackle if Brandon Shell is unable to recover from an ankle injury this week. He did not train on Wednesday.
Cornerback Tre Brown is expected to start training next week. He was on the reserve injured list for the first three weeks of the season alongside Parkinson’s and Ogbuehi.
Defensive end Kerry Hyder Jr. did not train on Wednesday due to a concussion.
