Google has been criticized for its dominance in online search for years, and currently the tech giant is facing a case in the EU for its actions. This week, however, the company is relying on the idea that its customers want to use Google search rather than alternatives, with the evidence used to support this being that the most popular search term on Bing is apparently “Google.” .
Before the EU General Court this week, a lawyer for Google’s parent company Alphabet presented evidence showing that the most popular search term on Bing is, in fact, “Google.” The lawyer describes that “Google” is “by far” the most searched term on Bing, Bloomberg reports.
Google uses this angle to prove that its customers chose to use Google search over its competitors, not because it was the default option on their device.
We have submitted evidence showing that by far the most common search query on Bing is Google. People use Google because they want to, not because they have to. Google’s market share in general search is consistent with consumer surveys showing that 95% of users prefer Google over competing search engines.

Bing is Microsoft’s search engine and the default option on the company’s Edge browser as well as Windows, the world’s most popular desktop operating system. The EU’s case against Google ruled that Google had “unfairly” pushed its search engine on Android phones to force rivals to make it the default option on those devices.
Google is currently appealing the $ 5 billion fine.
