Free game Genshin Impact made $ 2 billion on Google Play and Apple App stores in its first year. Which does Genshin Impact the third highest grossing mobile game in the world, comfortably seated behind Honor of kings and PUBG Mobile. Excluding sales from China, Genshin Impact is the highest grossing mobile game in the world.

Genshin Impact released worldwide on September 28, 2020. At launch time, it had almost 10 millions pre-registrations and more viewers on Twitch than Fortnite.

The game shows no signs of slowing down. Genshin crossed the billion dollar mark six months after its release. None of its top-performing competitors had hit the mark so quickly, according to analytics company Sensor tower. In September of this year he won more income the first week than the whole month of August, largely powered by the popularity of new character Raiden Shogun (whose release coincided with a daily spend of $ 21 million). Usually, players spend on average $ 12 million per day on most limited-time character versions.

In-game revenue comes from microtransactions allowing players to purchase “Genesis Crystals” which can be converted into a premium currency called “Primogems” and then into another currency called “Fates”. These fates can be used to obtain characters or weapons. The game also offers assorted upgrade material bundles for in-game characters. This summer, Genshin has also started offering paid cosmetics for two of its characters.

Sensor Tower’s $ 2 billion figure doesn’t include Genshin sales on PC or PlayStation. Therefore, the total income is actually over $ 2 billion.

China also still accounts for the largest share of Genshin Impactturnover of nearly 29 percent. On the world market, Japan accounts for 24% of the total number of sales and the United States comes third with 21%.
