The 49ers have buried the pain of losing to the Green Bay Packers and are now preparing for Week 4. San Francisco are looking to claim their first home division victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan praised Seattle to the media Wednesday despite the Seahawks’ 1-2 record.
What have you seen from the Seattle Seahawks in the first three weeks?
“Very similar to how you usually see them. I know they’re 1-2 which isn’t what they’re used to, and I know their defense numbers aren’t that good, but that won’t be at the end of the day. ‘year. They have very good players. They have very good coaches. They steal, they hit, they usually cause turnovers and they’re a really good team. And looking at their attack, their new plan helps me. He gave other issues and more recent issues. Their receivers are as good as they are in this league and they have one of the best quarterbacks to play in the past decade.
Shanahan has the utmost respect for Seattle as Pete Carrol has dominated their duel since joining the Niners in 2017. The 49ers are 2-6 against the Seahawks under Shanahan. With the victories of Nick Mullens in 2018 and Jimmy Garoppolo in 2019.
Garoppolo did not face the Seahawks in 2017 and missed four games in that game between 2018 and 2020 due to injury. This shows that Garoppolo has only played in Seattle twice, with both games coming in 2019. To be fair, the loss has come over time.
It’s easy to conclude that the Seattles’ defense is bad. However, everyone underestimated the Packers in the trenches last week (me included). San Francisco needs Garoppolo to play their best. Nothing promises that the racing game will be any better next week. Which means Garoppolo will have to get the Niners out of Jams. The 49ers’ offensive line also needs to step up its game.
Defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans will face another big power attack on Sunday. Russell Wilson is known to scramble if the smugglers lose their lockdown. Having two great receivers will put more stress on that stoned secondary.
I expect Ryans to send five after the QB with a male cover behind him. The Nickel coin is up for grabs. Buster Skrine could see the action early if they decide not to play Dontae Johnson. Kyle Shanahan said on Thursday that Skrine said he was ready to go, but Shanahan believes Skrine needs more time to learn defense.
San Francisco still controls its own destiny. This team is built to win despite injured running back and cornerback groups. The 49ers are set to rally and go for a tag team win on Sunday.
