The Yankees (91-68) enter the final weekend of the regular season as the American League’s top wild card, with two games against the Red Sox and Mariners, both 89-70, and three games against the Blue Jays (88-71). Starting Friday night, the Yankees round out their schedule with three games against the Rays at home, the Red Sox face the Nationals in Washington, the Mariners host the Angels and the Blue Jays host the Orioles.

Here’s what the Yankees need to do over the weekend to 1) clinch a playoff berth and 2) secure home field advantage for the Oct. 5 wildcard game.

The easy way

• A win secures the Yankees at least one spot in a tiebreaker on Monday and eliminates the Blue Jays.
• At least two wins give them the best wild card, meaning they would host the game with wild cards.

Hard

• A victory and a loss by the Red Sox or the Mariners ensures the Yankees to welcome the wild-card game.
• If the Yankees were swept away by the Rays, they would only run the wildcard game with the Mariners losing at least one, with the Blue Jays losing at least once and the Red Sox losing at least two.
• If swept away they would get the second wild card, serving as a road team on Tuesday, with a Mariners sweep, a Blue Jays sweep or the Red Sox winning two.

Limbo

• The Yankees are expected to play in a tiebreaker on Monday if 1) they win one and the Red Sox and Mariners both sweep; or 2) they are swept, the Red Sox and Mariners each win two and the Blue Jays sweep.

• The Yankees’ season would end on Sunday if they were swept away and the Red Sox and Mariners both swept.
