– Vacation travelers could face new pandemic rules this season. “We cannot allow future vacation air travel to contribute to a further increase in COVID cases,” Democratic Senator Diane Feinstein said tweeted. “Today, I introduced legislation requiring passengers on domestic flights to be vaccinated, test negative, or be fully recovered from a previous COVID illness.” Willis Orlando of Scott’s Cheap Flights doesn’t think that would cause any problems, reports WPVI. “It would really just be kind of an addition of restrictions in the United States that already exist elsewhere in the world and which have worked pretty well to contain COVID,” he said.
Albert Hsieh of Foxtrot Dash, a company that focuses on the use of points, agreed that the stricter restrictions work well in other parts of the world. “I actually feel the safest flying internationally,” he said. Dr Anthony Fauci said he would approve a vaccination warrant for air travelers, according to the Washington post. Airlines did not greet him favorably, with one saying a mandate would be “logistically”, although United said 320 of its U.S. employees could lose their jobs. ‘they did not produce proof that they had been vaccinated. “Airlines are doing not only what they can to protect themselves and their passengers, but also their reputation,” Orlando said.
Further restrictions could be enacted as the holiday season approaches, historically the busiest travel time of the year. A House bill would require airline or Amtrak passengers to show proof of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test. Before Thanksgiving, the United States will impose a vaccination mandate on visitors from other countries, who will also be required to present negative test results. “It makes perfect sense that we also make sure that the millions of air passengers who roam our country do not contribute to a new transmission,” Feinstein of California said in a statement.
