Slack is down for many people around the world

It’s not just you. Slack has been down for many people around the world since late Thursday afternoon and some people are still having trouble accessing the messaging service through a mobile app or even just on slack.com on early Friday morning.

Slack says this is a DNS issue and your ISP may need to change their settings.

“We are aware of the connectivity issues with DNS that affect a small subset of users. This issue was caused by our own change and is not related to any third-party DNS software and service, ”Slack said in a statement on Twitter at around 4 p.m. ET on Thursday..

“In order to resolve this problem faster, your ISP (Internet Service Provider) will need to empty their DNS record for slack.com. Please contact your networking team to provide them with this information, ”the company continued.

When will the service be back? At first, Slack tweeted that it expected service to be restored for everyone within 12 hours. But that number was revised in a subsequent tweet within 24 hours. This means that many people probably won’t see Slack restored until 5 p.m. ET, which seems to be a problem for some people trying to get to work on a Friday.

On Thursday night, Slack suggested switching to Google’s DNS servers as a possible solution and reloading Slack by holding down the control and command keys while typing R.

“We’re seeing signs of improvement, and reloading Slack (Ctrl / Command + R) may allow Slack to load again. However, the issue is not resolved for everyone and we’ll come back once we have another update to share, ”Slack tweeted.

Lots of people in countries on the other side of the globe, like Sweden and Australia, have been without Slack the whole time they’ve been workingday, leading to complaints from workers trying to do something. Ironically, those same people are not even able to load status.slack.com to check for updates and tweet about the company.

Slack didn’t answer questions overnight, but we’ll update this post when we get a response.
