It was a triumphant night at Truist Park for the Atlanta Braves. They started the night with two wins over the Phillies, needing just that last win to secure the NL East Division title, and they held on.
The first point came at the end of the first run, a monster 465-foot home run by Jorge Soler. Austin Riley also scored a homer, Dansby Swanson doubled and Ozzie Albies trebled, all to help bring the final score to 5-3. Ian Anderson took a while to find his rhythm, but he finally did, getting just two points. Will Smith had a ninth inning 1-2-3, being reliable just when we really needed him.
Just two months ago, in July, the Braves had a 6.1% chance of winning the division. With Ronald Acuña Jr. and Travis d’Arnaud injured, the teams’ chances were not good. But, with smart business decisions and consistency, they managed to beat the odds against them and claim their fourth straight NL East Division title.
Today, Huascar Ynoa will kick off Game 1 of the three-game series against the New York Mets.
