Active Houston Shooting: Police Arrest 1 Suspect at YES Prep Southwest Secondary

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – At least one suspect is in custody as Houston police responded to a report of an active shooting at a school in the southwest of the city.

The Houston Police Department tweeted Friday afternoon about the incident reported at 4400 Anderson Road in Hiram Clarke. The address is the YES Prep Southwest Secondary campus.

Police added that the call arrived at 11:45 a.m.

The scene is still active, so police are urging people to avoid the area.

Police then gave an update, saying one person was in custody and officers were searching the school for other possible suspects. Houston firefighters have confirmed that a patient was taken to a nearby hospital.

Parents are urged to travel to West Fuqua and Hiram Clarke to reunite with their children, according to Houston police.

YES Prep Southwest Secondary is a charter school serving grades 6 to 12. The campus has more than 1,000 students enrolled according to data from the Texas Tribune.
