New World: Amazon has doubled its servers and is asking new players to join less popular worlds

Since its launch on Tuesday, Amazon’s New World MMORPG has enjoyed literally overwhelming popularity. Although it has doubled the number of servers since its release, the publisher is now asking new fans who are logging into the game for the first time to find and join low capacity servers in the game as it searches. to reduce huge waiting times.

As shared in an update on Twitter (below), the dev team went into more detail on how players could avoid New World’s existing wait times – primarily, this is done by choosing to be a part of the game. of a less popular server, rather than jumping into an already packed world and waiting to enter.

“Our team has worked tirelessly to add as many servers as possible and will continue to do so until we stabilize the wait times,” Amazon said. “While we are doing this work, there are options to get into the game quickly. If you are a first-time player, forty percent of our live servers have low or no wait times. We encourage you to research these servers. And play. “

For existing players, it’s a bit more difficult. While Amazon says it is currently working on a feature that will allow you to transfer your character to another server in order to play more easily with friends, this is currently not possible in-game. The company said that it aimed to bring this feature to fans next week but, in the meantime, players already registered on oversubscribed servers have few options other than waiting for Amazon to increase capacity and hope new players don’t add to their already existing waiting times.

The wait times for New World speaks volumes about the game’s staggering popularity since its launch. The new MMO has already become the most played game of 2021 with a record player count of more than 200,000 players higher than that of Valheim, who previously held the record. On launch day itself, Amazon says more than a million players entered the game while the most recent statistics released on SteamDB show that despite the issues with the servers, the game has reached an impressive new record. of 758,543 simultaneous players.

This might not come as a surprise to fans who were following the game ahead of launch. The open beta of the game featured its own successful stint on Steam when it returned in July. For Amazon, New World offers both an encouraging and stark contrast to the company’s previously published work in the gaming space. Ahead of New World, the studio’s final efforts manifested in the form of Crucible, a free-to-play multiplayer third-person shooter whose servers were shut down in November following relatively poor performance on Steam.
