Konami released a statement on eFootball after its disastrous launch this week.
If you’ve read our thoughts on the game, which launched in extremely limited form this week as a free download, you’ll be familiar with the many issues plaguing Konami Pro Evolution Soccer tracking right now.
The launch went so badly and the backlash was so loud that eFootball is now the lowest rated game on Steam.
In a new statement released this afternoon, Konami pledged to improve the game – and even went so far as to identify many gameplay and graphics issues that have made eFootball a meme.
The statement emphasizes passing speed and “the defense operation” – two aspects of the game that we highlighted as particularly problematic in our article on impressions.
The statement also highlights the quality of the cutscenes, the player faces (which have gone viral), the player movements and the functioning of the ball.
Basically Konami is saying pretty much the whole game isn’t where it should be.
He pledged to make things right and said an update is planned for this month.

Here is the statement in full:
“After the release of eFootball 2022, we have received many feedback and requests regarding the balance of the game which includes passing speed and defensive operation. We would also like to acknowledge that there have been reports of problems encountered by users with cutscenes, facial expressions, player movements and ball behavior.
“We are very sorry for the problems and want to assure everyone that we will take all concerns seriously and strive to improve the current situation.
“This work will be continually updated, the quality will be improved, and the content will be added consistently. Starting next week, we will prepare an update in October, while receiving further feedback via questionnaires sent to our users.
“We will do our utmost to keep as many users as possible happy, and look forward to your continued support for eFootball 2022.”
It remains to be seen whether the damage is done. eFootball made a terrible first impression – even though Konami had reported that its launch was akin to a demo. Konami has a long, difficult road to go to turn things around after such a devastating reaction – if that’s even possible.
