Samsung Galaxy S22 battery size rumors have not been very good so far, with rumors that the battery may be smaller than that of the Galaxy S21. The rumors may be wrong, but another claimed that the S22 will have a shrinking battery, which is not very nice.
A new certification on Security Korea (marked by Telephone arena) shows what would be a Galaxy S22 battery. It has a capacity of 3,700mAh, with a usable capacity of 3,590mAh, which is significantly lower than the S21’s 4000mAh battery.
300mAh isn’t a huge capacity, but it’s a noticeable drop. In fact, the 40mm Galaxy Watch 4 only has 247mAh of battery capacity, which means the S22 might miss an entire smartwatch and a bit more.
While there is always a chance that these kinds of rumors will turn out to be false, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard that the standard S22 will feature this particular drop in capacity. A previous report from the Dutch site Galaxy Club claimed the phone would have 3,590 mAh of usable battery – the same figure from that certification.
We also have heard rumors that the total battery capacity of the Galaxy S22 Ultra will drop from 5,000mAh of the S21 Ultra to 4,855mAh, while the S22 Plus is expected to drop from the 4,800mAh of the S21 Plus to 4,370mAh.
But this news may not be as bad as it sounds. While having more battery capacity is one way to extend the battery life of a device, it is not always the case. Better power efficiency and lower overall power consumption are key to keeping a phone running longer, and it’s possible that this can happen in the S22 range.
Rumors also claim that the S22 range have smaller screens than the S21 range. Considering the amount of energy required to power the screen, this could go a long way in reducing the power needs of phones. In other words, a significant drop in battery capacity may not be accompanied by a loss in overall battery life.
Then again, these rumors could all turn out to be completely false. At this early stage, we just don’t know enough to make absolute judgments. However, the fact that multiple sources have made virtually identical claims means that we should expect smaller Galaxy S22 batteries.
We’ll just have to wait and see what the Galaxy S22 lineup has in store for us when it launches early next year.
